Help me give my students the gift of a new book to read as a class!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This year, I took a new approach to designing my curriculum and let my students choose the books and topics we cover in class. By putting them in the driver's seat this year, I've seen an upward trend of engagement. Since students specifically chose this book, I am confident that they will be overjoyed to learn it's been added to our class library.
While reading this book, students will develop their own answers to critical essential questions like, "How do we find, evaluate, and construct the truth?" and "What does it mean to discover the truth in the context of a detective novel?" While engaging in a literary work, students will explore storytelling from different perspectives, understand evidence-based reasoning, and assume the role of a literary "detective" to get to the truth!
My students are a very unique group of amazing young people. I teach at a continuation high school which serves our most at-risk population in Carlsbad. This school has become a haven for students who need extra support, learn better in a smaller setting, interact with adults who are truly invested in their future, and seek a supportive and empowering environment. They are all amazing kids who need something different to help them find their path to their diploma.
