Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I wish to expose my inner city student population to new potential life long activities and sports to promote a healthy lifestyle. I teach at an incentive middle school in a high need community. Students in this neighborhood are typically only exposed to a few sports which presents me with the challenge of overcoming taught routine and expanding their understanding of how to live a healthy lifestyle through sports and activities.

Students in this neighborhood all are exposed to Basketball, Football, and Baseball. Students that do not fit this mold or have a recognized talent in one of these main sports become frustrated and become close minded about physical activity. With childhood obesity and deaths related to heart disease at an all time high, I feel that it is my duty to expose students to all types of activities to help them grow with a healthy lifestyle and build their confidence by helping them find something that they each can enjoy and be successful in.

To successfully help students overcome the attitude that they can't succeed in sports and thus must grow up unhealthy, I need any and all sports and activity equipment that may be something that my students haven't been fortunate enough to of been exposed to. I have listed bowling, lacrosse, hockey and badminton. I plan on also exposing my classes to Rugby, Olympic Handball, tennis and hiking.

I challenge my potential donors to assist me in my present situation to potentially change my students lives to help promote a health life style as well as building self confidence!
