it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom consists of twenty-five transitional bilingual Kindergarteners, many of which are attending school for the first time this year. In our classroom, we have a strong sense of community, and it is truly a place where my students feel safe, respected, and cared for. They look out for each other, help each other, encourage each other, and build each other's self-esteem as people and as learners.
My students are some of the most energetic, eager, caring, and lovable children I have had the privilege of working with.
They love to be challenged and to approach new learning experiences with optimism and wonder. They are so curious to learn and explore the world around them. They have big imaginations and even bigger hearts. They are welcoming, understanding, and are a group of truly wonderful kids.
My Project
Our classroom library is in need of some new books about different holidays all year long. The time around Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter is so exciting in Kindergarten. We often celebrate these holidays with different creative projects and crafts. Books are the launching pad for many of these ideas because they help us get in the spirit of celebrating. Our classroom library has some of the older classics, but it lacks newer titles featuring popular characters that my students love. I enjoy using books to help me bring the holidays to life for my students.
Some of the most memorable moments we share together as a class are from celebrating different holidays year round and reading books to learn about them.
Many of my students have never been in school before Kindergarten, and the magic of celebrating different holidays together fills them with excitement. The books in the project include characters that they know and love such as Pete the Cat, Little Blue Truck, Corduroy, Llama Llama, Bad Kitty, and Bear. Other titles are highly rated and some are award-winning titles too. I want to use these books to fill my students with wonder as we celebrate some of the most wonderful times of the year together!
