Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I love that my students are resilient, curious, and full of potential. They show up every day with big dreams, strong hearts, and a desire to grow—even when life outside the classroom makes learning harder. They’re not just students; they’re leaders in the making, creative thinkers, and kind souls who inspire me daily.

Every item in our wellness closet serves a purpose to remove the quiet barriers that can hold students back from feeling confident, focused, and ready to learn.

This closet is about more than supplies—it’s about saying, “You are seen. You are valued. You are supported.” Because when students’ basic and emotional needs are met, their minds are freer to learn, imagine, and succeed.

Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, pads/tampons, lotion, and hairbrushes promotes self-confidence and prevents bullying or embarrassment, Reduces distractions caused by discomfort or self-consciousness, and encourages regular attendance. Students are more likely to come to school when they feel clean and prepared supported.

The goal of the Wellness Closet is to ensure that every student has access to the essential resources they need to feel safe, clean, confident, and ready to learn regardless of their background or circumstances. We aim to remove the quiet barriers that can affect a student’s ability to succeed in school, like hygiene insecurity, lack of school supplies, or emotional stress by offering a dignified, supportive space where students can “take what they need, when they need it.”
