This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
ABLE is a transition program that serves students through our local high school district with moderate to severe disabilities. Our program specializes in teaching functional academics, community-based instruction, job/ vocational skills training, and recreational activities to ensure that each student makes a smooth transition from high school into the community. We strive to show students, their families, and the community that our students are capable of successfully participating in the workforce with appropriate support, modifications, and practice.
This project will fund a color printer for our students, the "ABLE Artists".
Our students have significant disabilities and often learn best when things are in color. This is especially true with the reference images that we commonly use in art (because our student's struggle to recreate things from their memory alone). Having access to a color printer during art projects will also allow students to add various colorful images to their mixed media pieces and collages.
Not only will color printing help our students develop valuable vocational art skills, but it will also encourage their creativity and self-expression. The skills/ lessons incorporated with our colorful projects will also support a variety of additional life skills, motor skills, business skills, and academic skills.
Thank you for considering supporting our classroom and the ABLE artists!
