This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My Bronx students remind me of myself when I was in middle school. They are getting to know themselves and the world around them through adolescent eyes. They are energetic, enthusiastic and full of creative ideas.
As 7th and 8th graders, they come to me with non-blank slates that should be added to, not erased.
They are dramatic yet resilient, both confident and insecure, and lovable each in their own way. I love letting their ideas take life in my classroom.
Many people think the Bronx is a tough place to grow up but we know that it is a good thing to be strong in a tough world.
My Project
A full-size refrigerator would be a very helpful tool in our 5-story building. Teachers and students alike need this appliance to store items such as lunch and liquids in addition to science experiments that require colder temperatures.
Ice cubes will literally be at our fingertips so they can be used to illustrate scientific and mathematical concepts giving students a much deeper understanding of physical properties and rules of nature.
One of the worst things a teacher can say to a student is, "we don't have the resources to do that" when a student has a great idea. This refrigerator will change that answer.
