Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in one of the densest low-income communities in California. It has been hard returning from the pandemic, many of our students returned with high levels of anxiety, limited social skills, and trauma. Our students with special needs and mental health conditions were principally affected. The Click: Photography Club provides students at our school the opportunity to enjoy photography, but most importantly to broaden social circles.
The Click is an official school club created to promote diversity, school culture, and inclusiveness of students with special needs and English learners through photography.
Over 75% of our members are students with disabilities and 30% are English learners or newcomers. There are no requirements to join the club, only a willingness to learn and be inclusive.
My Project
Getting a quality professional camera will help my students practice their love for photography. It will also create more opportunities for students to be involved in school-related activities like sports. We are grateful to the many people that have allowed us to use their cameras but having a camera of our own will allow us to expand.
Getting a camera will also create more opportunities for students with special needs to get involved in school extracurricular activities like sports, school events, and other clubs.
Photography is a wonderful way for my students to express themselves. It is their voice.
