Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from hardworking families on the West Side of Chicago. They are incredibly bright and have an enormous capacity to learn, to work diligently, and to succeed! I wish to match their incredible efforts with the best possible resources here in our learning community.
At this time, when critical thinking is often disregarded in favor of "alternative facts", my students and I are trying our best each day to promote the crafting of logical claims and the citation of relevant evidence.
We would be so grateful for your consideration!
My Project
My students are inspired by stories of heroism and survival, ingenuity and empowerment. This novel in particular, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, is a is a gripping memoir of survival and perseverance about the heroic young inventor who brought electricity to his Malawian village after a devastating drought.
Wouldn't it be wonderful to delve into such an inspiring true story, especially one where the Hero looks just like YOU?!
I want to share this story with my Agents of Change students through shared read-alouds and narrative writing exercises-- and then celebrate our new learning and enthusiasm for reading by taking them to see the new tie-in film of the same name.
