Imagine you are a curious art student and want to take tours of famous museums. You might be able to do this on your cell phone, but phones aren't allowed in school. By having a set of Chromebooks in the classroom, you will no longer have to choose between curiosity and conscience.
The students in our school possess an amazing mix of resiliency and creativity.
They attend our high school alternative academy for a variety of reasons, but they share a common goal: a sincere desire to succeed despite sometimes overwhelming obstacles. They are innovative, creative, and tenacious.
My Project
Imagine you are a student who loves to read. You go to a class and each day the teacher tells you about all of the fabulous books the world has to offer, but because there is a limited library, students will all read from the same book, on the same page, on the overhead projector. You like the first page, but you read more quickly than others. Or more slowly. Or you want to read a different book. Or you want to browse. Now take that frustration and apply it to art. Students need the opportunity to view and browse and study a variety of art and artists that match their interests. A classroom set of Chromebooks will enable them to do so. With the Chromebook, they can tour museums, learn about famous artists, bookmark areas of interest. The entire art world is open to them and they have access to all of it. The best way to encourage art exploration is to let kids explore. The best way to do that with technology is with Chromebooks.
Teachers are a resourceful bunch, alternative school teachers possibly even more so.
Not only will these Chromebooks be used in the art classroom, they will be available for use in all of the classrooms. Students will be able to tour museums, study famous pieces, watch artists in action. As a result, they will also be fine tuning their technology and literacy skills. They will be able to access more of the world, and more of the world will gain insight to their lives as well.
