Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Two years ago, I convinced my Principal to revive a course at my school called Myths and Monsters. In this English class, students read literature involving ancient myths and... you guessed it- monsters. To launch this program, I asked Donor's Choose to help me get a class set of Dracula for the class to enjoy.
With this project, I am attempting to improve the course by diversifying the texts available to students.
I teach at a school with a large population of English language learners. Dracula proved a struggle for some of them. With your help, I will provide students with choices on what to read- something my research shows leads directly to student success. These new texts, Coraline and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, will give students of different reading levels access to my course's objectives and help build their mastery of English.
