The Case of the Missing Pieces: Please Replace Our Favorites!

Help me give my students replacements for some of our favorite classroom puzzles and toys that are currently missing pieces!

My Project

My students are resilient, creative, curious, funny, and hard-working 3-5 year-olds who attend Pre-K at a Washington, DC public school. Our full-time classroom is part of an elementary school in a neighborhood where most students are considered to be "at-risk", determined based on socioeconomic needs. My students have been diagnosed with autism or other communication-related disabilities. Regardless of these labels, my students consistently prove what is possible with hard work and dedication.

Have you ever opened up your favorite game only to find that essential pieces are missing?

After 10 years in the same classroom, I've found some fan favorite items, but some of them have lost pieces or are just plain worn out from lots of use! This project requests a hodge podge of items that my students LOVE. For example, I cannot tell you how much joy our train set brought students every day last year -- we just had mismatched sets that didn't work together and it's time for tracks that actually connect! The selected wooden puzzles are classic first choices for students who are beginning to learn matching and sorting skills. The "What's Inside?" feely box gets used EVERY DAY in our morning group time, but it's not washable so it's definitely time for a new one. I look forward to re-introducing these exciting items to the classroom. With your help we can refresh our favorites for this year and many years to come!
