The Care Closet: Access to Basic Needs

Help me give my students access to hats, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, and other essential hygiene products in our classroom closet.

My Project

Every child should have access to the basic needs of life so that they can focus on their education. When students have their physiological needs met, they can relax and reduce their worries about what they may be lacking. Some of our students struggle to overcome many of the things taken for granted by others such as access to school supplies, personal hygiene products, and other simple necessities. Many of my students have to travel over 50 miles to access major shopping stores.

Students feel more confident in themselves and can focus on learning when their basic of needs are met.

Providing a private way to access these items including deodorant, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, chapstick, socks, gloves, and hats allows students opportunities to advocate for themselves, feel supported by their school community, and to be ready to take on their day!
