The Bully Project Film - Student Viewing

My students need view the film, "Bully" in order to help them feel empowered to stand up to bullying when they witness it.

My Students

Two-thirds of middle school faculty and staff report frequently witnessing bullying in their schools. The students and faculty at my school recognize the seriousness of bullying and are working towards developing methods to prevent it when possible, and intervene if it arises. I'd like to bring a group of middle school students to view the film, "œBully"ƒ in order to give our students the tools to respond in a way that they may effectively protect and support the target, provide consequences for the bully, and all members of the school community feel empowered to stand up to bullying when they witness it.

My school is located on the far south side of Chicago.

The students are subjected to verbal taunting, exclusion, facebook messaging in addition to the poverty and violence that surrounds them. I'd like to give them strategies to help empower themselves.

My Project

Preventing bullying in our schools and communities will not be a quick fix or simple solution. Stopping it needs to go far beyond reacting to alarming media headlines, completing surveys, and distributing zero-tolerance policy reminders. I'd like my students to develop ways to take action against bullying and for their voices to heard; gain tools to speak up and really change things at our school and in the community.

This film will allow my students to view and discuss the stories & encourage them to make connections between more extreme situations and less serious actions and behavior that they either participate in, or observe in their everyday lives.
