This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Children learn best through interacting in hands-on activities. I am a home-school teacher working with students who are fragile and have the very most needs. I teach my children at the bedside in a residential hospital setting. Materials must be extremely motivating, portable, easily adaptable, and easily cleaned.

Magnetic blocks are perfect for working at the bedside allowing the children to build higher and more complex structures that won’t collapse as readily as traditional blocks.

For students with more needs, rattles, sensory boxes, and simple puzzles are more appropriate tools used to encourage early interactions such as; responding to stimuli, joint attention, and development of motor skills. In a setting where the learning needs are widely varied, these highly motivating toys and block-building activities will develop skills in communication, social skills, and readiness skills and increase attention span.
