This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the biggest units in my 8th grade classroom is the Holocaust. I want to help my students understand what happened and what it meant for all those involved.

I teach in a small migrant community.

Gang activity is prevalent and sometimes empathy is lacking. In my classroom, I work hard not only at addressing the Common Core Standards, but I work on character building as well. I try to use every opportunity to teach my students how to be successful members in my classroom, at our school, and in our small community.

My Project

My students will use this novel to build reading skills, practice reading strategies, and learn about an important time period in history. By reading this novel, my students will begin to understand that people make choices and these choices can affect everyone. I also want them to see that we do not have to repeat what happens in the past.

I feel that my students will gain an understanding of the Holocaust and how it affected people.

My hope is to instill empathy for others. With the help of this novel, I feel that they will begin to see how they may make a difference in their own lives.
