My students need four Nook eReaders that will allow us to integrate content area and thematic topics into our reading workshop and save money on books.
My students go to school in a beautiful, two-year-old school, but we still lack multiple copies of books for guided reading lessons. With the four Nook e-Readers, I can purchase a book for a low price and put it on up to six devices. Four Nooks in our classroom will be a great start!
My students are a dynamic, hardworking, eager-to-learn group of fifth graders who love to be challenged and to discuss current issues.
Our school is racially, culturally, and economically diverse, and our school is proud of the culture of success we have created that celebrates our differences and unique qualities of each individual.
My Project
With the Nook eReaders, I will be able to select books that correlate with the topics we study in science, social studies, and math and with seasonal themes and themes related to our system-mandated reading program. By choosing supplementary reading material relating to these topics and themes, I can help students deepen their knowledge and enrich the overall classroom instruction.
You might wonder why having eReaders is essential? Convenience and cost! I can go to The Nook Store, type in a book title or topic, browse, preview, and download the books I need in a matter of minutes. In addition, I can purchase a book one time and place it on SIX devices. Between the two laptops I already have and the four Nooks this grant will bring, I can expose my students to a wide variety of books at fraction of the cost compared to what I typically spend on books in a school year. Further, I can find books at appropriate reading levels for all my students to meet individual needs.
The Nook eReaders will not only allow me to bring wonderful titles to my students, but they will allow me to place technology into my students' hands.
This will build excitement for learning for reluctant readers and, really, for everyone! Who doesn't want a Kindle or a Nook these days? Imagine the excitement my fifth graders will feel while reading using the coolest, latest technology! Please help me reach out to, and meet the needs of, my tech-savvy, twenty-first century learners!
