My students need books. I keep thinking we have enough and then the school year starts, and I realize just how badly we need a bigger library for my students to explore.
My students are phenomenal! All of my students have various learning needs, behavioral needs, and emotional needs. In my class, they learn grammar, reading, writing, and anything that encompasses language arts.
My students are full of personality and are always striving to grow and learn more about themselves and the world around them.
It is a joy to teach all 20 of them. As students who go to a Title I school - and a predominantly ESL school - life isn't as easy as it is for others. Economic and language barriers want to hold them back. However, these kids are learning to fight for their education, and I am honored to be a part of their growth.
My Project
I hand selected multiple reading level books for my students to read this year. I began the school year pushing the kids to read more at home with their parents. However, what I'm starting to see is my students' parents don't have any books at home. I have been asking them to read at home and they have come back to school, telling me they didn't have any books at home to read with their parents.
Therefore, I'm asking for your help to get my students books they can borrow to take home and read with their parents since they don't have any of their own.
Reading every day for at least 20 minutes vastly helps improve a child's comprehension and reading skills. I might not be able to buy a library for each of my students, but I can do something by having books of all levels, genres, and reading interests that will help my students achieve their goals of becoming better readers this year.
