This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help my students realize all the chemicals they are exposed to on a daily basis and improve their writing skills at the same time!

My students are a wonderful group of inner city poverty Latino and African American high school students that work incredibly hard to overcome the difficulties in their lives.

We learn in a Humanities Academy designed to help students with personalization and interdisciplinary teaching with a writing focus. We are working incredibly hard to prepare our students for college. I teach Chemistry in that Academy and am working with an English and World History teacher this year on interdisciplinary units.

My Project

We are working on an awesome unit for this year's tenth graders where they look at whether humans advances in society have ultimately helped or harmed us as people and a society. We will examine these hot questions through English, Chemistry, and World History. The Body Toxic Class Set will provide us a framework to do just that. It talks about all the chemicals humans have developed and incorporated into society for the better, but is it better? The students will have the final say.

The Body Toxic and our interdisciplinary unit will give students the context of what they are learning and the chance to incorporate three different subjects into one theme.
