My Students
The other day, a student of mine said, "Mr. Stuart, I love learning about world history, but sometimes I wonder what these places are like today." I thanked her for her feedback and wondered at how curiosity like this could be best satisfied for my students.
My kids are awesome and I love them.
We live in a small town, and yet my students are future world-shapers. I believe they can be the kinds of teens who grow up into parents, spouses, thinkers, and creators who impacted others. Yet, for many of them, this small town is all they've ever known -- and there's both a beauty to that reality, and a limitation to it.
My Project
When our classroom copies of these travel books arrive in the mail, my students will group explore the texts in groups, specifically looking for connections between the material we've covered in class and the cities or destinations covered in their assigned book. This task is designed to help students make connections between the past and the present, as well as to whet their appetites to this particular genre of reading (travel books).
With this project, you're building future readers, future travelers, and quite possibly future historians.
More importantly, you are giving the gift of a love for our planet and its many riches.
Thank you so much!
