This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a school counselor at a K-8 Center that services students with career, academic, and personal skills. I provide students with the opportunity to develop realistic concepts about themselves, to become aware of educational achievements, and to enhance their interpersonal skills.
Counseling is accomplished through a number of school-wide programs including classroom lessons, individual counseling, and small group counseling.
My favorite quote is "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you know"; this message encourages students to believe in themselves. My goal for this school year is to implement a Girl Talk club for fourth and fifth grade students. The program lessons will focus on self-esteem, self-respect, self-confidence, positive relationship and leadership skills. The Girl Talk club will also have a service learning component where the girls in the group will have to create a service project that would that would improve the environment or community.
My Project
The materials I am requesting for the Girl Talk club will provide the students with valuable lessons that are life-learning. The resources will help girls to improve peer relationships, to express feelings positively, to feel good about school, to solve problems, to change inappropriate behavior, to learn good decision-making skills and to learn the importance of academic. The materials I requested will help enhance the the club group lessons. I will have the opportunity to scan and print various activities that goes along with the group lessons. I will also be able to print certificates, letters, and flyers that pertain to the club. The materials provided will also allow the girls to take pictures of the club activities and create scrapbooks to take home and share with family and friends as well as have as a keepsake.
The donations will improve the culture among girls in our school.
The program will help reduce referrals to the school counselor office because the girls will have the training and skills to deescalate peer conflict and peer pressure and emerge into positive and self-assured girls. Their leadership abilities will also be positive role models for other girls.
