This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I'm a K4 teacher bilingual in a public school in the Southside in Milwaukee. Developmental preschool is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning to imitate sounds or hold pencils and crayons. My classroom has 35 students, distributed as follows, 4 and 5 years. Some students receive the service for Special Education (speech therapy, behavior, assistance in academic areas such as reading, writing math). All my students are of low economic resources.
As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try small chunks of the day with their typically developing peers.
My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day together helping to create strong bonds of trust, fun, colorful teaching based on our standards.
My Project
My K4 Bilingual students from South Side Milwaukee and come from hard-working and loving parents. All almost students come from low income-parent homes or some don't know where their next basic essentials are coming from, but they are eager to learn. Students are focused, engaged, and eager to learn when their needs are met.
My classroom is made up of preschool school students and students who are English language learners.
They are always eager to learn about our changing world. However, their neighborhood is a high crime, poverty area. My school has a 90% poverty rate. Several of my students speak a different language at home.
I am requesting basic school supplies as our students head back to school after a year of remote learning. These supplies, include Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencil sharpeners, and some other essential school supplies that will help my students to have a best learning engagement and I feel that reengagement activities with the school supplies will help them.
Please consider helping our students, their families, and the teachers at our school obtain the supplies needed to start the new school year off right.
