This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want to start by thanking you for taking the time to read my story and considering my project. I have been a speech language pathologist for a little over 20 years, mostly servicing children in low socioeconomic neighborhoods where English is their second language. Over my 20 years of working with children, I have noticed that the biggest struggle has been literacy.
Reading is a right of passage and the key to open all doors.
I strongly believe that if the right approach is used, all my students can make progress and become better readers. My speech classroom supports children in reading, vocabulary, comprehension, spelling and the areas of receptive and expressive language.
My current classroom needs a whiteboard so I can have kids actively engage in the lessons as a participant and observer. The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to purchase materials that follow the Science of Reading theory that will give my students a multi sensory approach to learning how to read. The label maker will help me label and organize all materials.
