This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work at a high school where we have a diverse low-income population. My students struggle every day with issues that would surprise most people. Within this population, passion and drive help them to succeed but we need more tools to help them get there.
I teach our IB Visual Arts course and we have run into a road block because of budget cuts for supplies.
It's important to have the basics to keep their passion alive. Some go on to be professional artists and some walk away with the knowledge to appreciate art and the world around them.
My Project
Many famous artists have shown how important keeping a sketchbook helps them practice and come up with ideas for their artwork. The sketchbook and pencils will help my students brainstorm and explore how they want to express their ideas to the viewer. This is part of their process which they need to document for their IB Visual Arts exam.
Many of my students can't afford the basic supplies they need to succeed in the class and their IB exam, and our budget has been cut tremendously.
I believe that having these supplies will help them achieve a passing mark on their exam.
