Our school is a newly created middle school within an existing building. As a school that is sharing space, we have had to split our students into two groups, 5 stories apart. The special education class is now in the basement, far away from the main office and all of the office equipment that is housed there.
The students in the special education class have orthopedic problems which inhibit their writing speed. Therefore, it is quite time consuming for them to copy down notes and problems. However, without a copy machine it is necessary for them to do so. They are losing learning time every day to copy down information that could be prepared for them on a copied handout.
The students need a copy machine in their basement space so that all of their teachers can consistently provide them with pre-made notes and problem sets.
Special Education students face challenges from the day they enter the classroom, from the way in which they are treated to the dire state of their teaching instruction. You can give them a chance to have the same learning opportunities as their General Education peers.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
