Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a large, urban community that welcomes families from all over the globe. Some of them live in the public shelters located in this community, due to unfortunate circumstances. However, they ALL bring a special blend of linguistic diversity, background knowledge, prior experiences, and culture to our school. We are a Title I school in a low-income community; I have twenty-five English Language Learners (ELLs) in my classroom.
My students are creative, smart, and despite the circumstances are always eager to learn.
The majority of my students live in homes where the grown-ups have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. This presents a challenge, as most of my students will not be able to purchase supplies. They would benefit from a variety of classroom resources and supplies to help increase their success in our newly established distance remote learning platform and in the uncertain upcoming school year.
My Project
This pandemic should not stop my students from learning the skills they need to be successful in life. My students are learning English as a new language while learning to read, write, and do more sophisticated math. Now and uncertain for how long my living room is my classroom. Therefore, it is very important that I have the resources to help them grasp the concepts and skills they need to succeed in the next school year.
The portable scanner will help me upload stories, lessons, and texts to share with students while we meet during "live lessons" and will remain online for students to access when needed.
I can tape the chart paper to my wall so I can model my math and writing for them to see.
