This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All of my students have IEP's, Individual Education Plans. They have specific learning disabilities, autism and or other health impairments. My students often have impaired communication skills and difficulty in making eye contact. Sometimes they exhibit repetitive behaviors and activities such as arm flapping, headbanging, or twirling an object over and over. Rigid behavior and difficulty with change and transitions. Students with autism do well with sensory play. It helps them regulate and even prevent meltdowns. As well as improve communication and social skills.
My Project
My special ed students attend a STEAM magnet but have a difficult time accessing the curriculum through written materials. They love working in small groups with actual materials to discover the art and science all around us, please help me make that happen.
The Microscopes will let them see the small world all around us and help them to recreate it individually to solidify that knowledge.
They will discover more about plant and insect life in their class and school environment. Hands-on science and art allows them to keep up with their typical peers in the other fifth grade classrooms
