The Art of Storytelling

Help me give my students blank books, clay for their three-dimensional storytelling art, and clay tools to add texture to their work and use different techniques.

My Project

For the past two years, our school has held a regional art show in May to showcase some of the scholars' work. Each year, there is a theme of focus, and this year it is "The Art of Storytelling."

The materials that are listed are for specific projects that scholars will be creating.

These materials will help in their creation of work related to the theme of storytelling as students are creating art about stories from history and art that represents personal experiences. It is important that the scholars get these materials for their projects to help keep them engaged in the art room. The materials being asked for will allow them to use critical thinking and creativity to make art that is meaningful to them.

One of the materials listed is clay. The project that will be made with this material is a sculpture totem pole that includes attached pieces that the scholars create out of clay. These pieces will tell a story of the scholars choosing. Scholars will be able to create a piece that tells a story about their own life.

Another material listed is the cardboard rectangles that will be used as a base for the three-dimensional story boards. The blank books are for scholars to write their own stories with illustrations. This allows scholars to be more engaged in creating their story because they have a book that they can design. This also allows for more cross-curricular learning in the art room because scholars are expected to write a story that goes with their visual art.
