My Project
The students we have at our school are exceptional in their character. These are the kindest, funniest, most empathetic students I have worked with in years. They are invested in each other's stories and the stories that we tell as part of our English curriculum.
I am requesting a class set of popular graphic memoirs "Hey, Kiddo" and "Dancing at the Pity Party" for our lit circles.
These graphic novels will provide my students with the tools to analyze and tell stories, what English is all about, and will give them compelling stories to read. Our students are very engaged in reading graphic novels, so we have selected a set of graphic memoirs that are relevant and interesting to the students.
These titles represent different backgrounds and personal experiences of authors of various identities. They include many narrative and organizational structures. They show how visuals can tell a story alongside our written words. They will give students models for how we can share our own stories.
