My Project
The purpose of this project is to help my students learn to better control their emotions and recognize when they need to take a moment for themselves. My teaching moto is that no student can learn without having their needs met first. A very basic need is the need to feel calm. I know that I personally struggle to function when I am upset, tired, or hungry. This means that a student who is still emotionally immature, must really struggle under these circumstances.
The materials in this project will ensure that students have an area in the classroom that will help with emotional needs needing to be met.
For example, the tent, blanket, and bean bag work to provide a sense of privacy where a student can be comfortable while calming down in a safe environment. The other materials will promote overall calm during class time. For example, students in this particular class have a need for privacy. Therefore, having the option for a privacy screen helps some students from getting upset when they need their own space. Noise canceling headphones also help when students feel overstimulated by noise.
