The Art Of Imagination-Using Books to Inspire

My students need books so they can teach themselves to draw. Books filled with amazing inspiring images can transport and allow students to choose what they are interested in learning.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Conner's classroom raised $387

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are ninety percent free lunches. Many come from single parent, working class, Spanish speaking environments. Opportunities in abundance on the other side of town seem like a fantasy in our classroom. My students aren't vacationing; instead, they read or draw to travel. I have to ask important questions, checking clarity because what seems a given to me, may not be for my students who struggle to see "fantasy" in the urban environment. This year I started a small library of learning to draw books. These opportunities perusing the learning to draw books provide hours of self-directed learning and allow for all students' learning modalities. They are inspired!

My Project

The books will encourage children to look closely and use their imagination to understand why artists choose to create the work they do and in the way that they do it. There are learners who are most able to learn visually. In my classroom children will be able to use the books collaboratively or by themselves.

Students will learn how to look for what they are interested in or be inspired.

My classroom is set up to allow for students to lean back on a pillow or sit with their newly sharpened pencil at the ready. This library would be inspiring for the most seasoned of learners. I see over 450 students a week. The lives these books would touch is exciting.
