Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students I have the honor of supporting and working alongside with are at promise, opportunity youth brimming with exciting ideas and thoughtful musings. My goal for this project is to offer a brave space where students can openly express themselves through creative means, gain new insights into their emotions, and develop coping strategies that work for them.

The supplies I’m requesting, like paint, canvases, markers, and other materials, will allow students to engage in hands-on activities that promote creative self-expression, mental well being, and emotional healing.

The items chosen for this project will provide students I support with tools for exploring their feelings, building confidence, and learning new ways to cope with their mental health challenges. Additionally, other items like fidgets, stickers, and pop its will also help incentivize participation in my weekly Wellness activities to promote mental health awareness, kindness, and community building to the wider school community.

What makes my students brave is their openness to engage in the therapeutic process despite the obstacles they face. Art therapy has been shown to help students with varying mental health challenges and stressors by offering a non-verbal way to process their experiences and emotions. Help me harness the healing powers of the arts at my alternative school setting, so that my students have the creative means to continue their path of recovery.
