The Art of Computer Coding

My students need Ozobots so they can learn to computer code and create art projects for a complete STEAM environment, and the shelf will serve as a place to store the Ozobots and our art supplies.

My Students

My target students are in the 7th and 8th grades at a Title I school in the Delta with a very high population of students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch. They are incredibly bright and eager to learn. They love working on inquiry-driven projects that require them to work together and apply twenty-first century skills. This project will allow students from varied economic backgrounds to work collaboratively with the teacher to prepare them for the workforce they will enter.

My Project

All the students in my computer class are required to learn some basic computer coding, which they do enjoy. The math and science involved in learning to code is complex, and I find that many of my students need an outlet. For many of them, that outlet is artistic.

Using Ozoblts to learn computer code allows students to combine both coding and art.

The Ozobots are naturally designed to work with hand-drawn lines and color blocks. Students will be using the Ozobots as a way to learn to create and write computer code. Students will be able to create not only coding projects but also art projects that will allow them to program the Ozobot robots.

This is a natural for the artist but offers a new level of challenge for the rest of the students. I am excited to offer this project as a unique way of creating a STEAM project that will combine coding and arts. The shelf will be a great place to store the Ozobots and also the art supplies we received in a previous DonorsChoose.org grant.

I hope to STEAM up my classroom as we create art with robots and computer coding.
