My Students

Our school is a neighborhood school in one of the largest urban areas in the country. Our students come to school from the surrounding neighborhood as well as other parts of the city. Having a diverse group of students means that we have many opportunities to learn from each other.

My Project

Our fifth grade students are exploring the Art of America in art class this year. Moving forward, they will be creating art inspired by underrepresented artists in our country. Betye Saar, Charles White, Hebru Brantley, and Martin Puryear are a few of the African American Artists students will read and learn about. They will be weaving, assembling, drawing and designing using the materials listed in this grant. This new curriculum has only been taught remotely, so I am even more excited to see what they can create with the proper materials.
