Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My PreK students come from varying economical and cultural backgrounds. Most of them have never been exposed to a school setting, they come to me as a blank canvas. That is the true meaning of starting from scratch in a classroom. We offer many hands-on activities for them to truly connect with concepts and engage them so they can use all their senses. I want to touch every aspect of their world and enhance it.
While all of my students are acquiring language and new vocabulary, the majority of my class is doing so with English as a second language.
Despite the language barrier, my students are eager to come to school everyday. They are the most curious, energetic and exceptional bunch you've ever seen. Their ambition to learn fuels my love of teaching.
My Project
My students need various art supplies to use during small group and free choice times.
Having various types of art media will enable my students to express themselves creatively in the classroom.
My Pre-K students spend a lot of time in the creativity and art area. There, we get to see them use many other skills such as problem solving, expression, math and science discovery as well as exposure to many language development opportunities.
Our students go through materials a little faster because we focus more on the process than the results. I love to see them explore why glue drips the way it does and watch them problem solve when their newly glued wiggly eyes are sliding along with it. Our art supplies this year have been depleted and we are in dire need of a replenishment. With this project, my students will have an array different materials at their fingertips..Let's see what they will create next!
