Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a STEAM Charter School. Because it is a fairly new elementary school, and we are in a low socioeconomic area, we are lacking proper art equipment. To put the A in STEAM, we need Art tools and supplies beyond the dollar store budget that we have.

These students are just learning how to be creative students who are hungry to expand their knowledge of the artistic diversity in our world.

I do not want them to lose interest in learning simply for the lack of resources in my classroom and in their homes. When you love school, you will always love to learn. Art is therapeutic and is essential for life long learning. Help me open doors for my students.

My Project

My little budding artists have a need. They require the tools and materials essential for their success in school. With the language barrier that some face, art is the way they can communicate to others, especially about themselves and their culture.

Having something simple, such as "People Colors" crayons, "People Colors" craft paper or "Multicultural Washable Paint" the same color as their own skin can make such a huge impact on a child who normally only sees basic colors in their bargain basement crayon box or paint set.

I plan to give the students opportunities to do multicultural art pieces using tissue paper, crayons, and watercolors (which we already have) with actual watercolor paper. These opportunities to use high quality materials to create are priceless for my students.
