My Students
Have you ever seen a real artist paint? What does he paint on? A table? NO! An easel! I would like to have my 5th grade Art students paint on a class set of Mini Easels for a upcoming lesson and also display their paintings. However, I simply don't have the funds to buy them ourselves.
I am the Art specialist in a K-5 Arts school.
We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. I see about 975 students every week, from Kindergarten though grade five. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language.
My Project
The easels that I have requested have multiple uses. Not only will our easels hold our artworks while working on them but we will have a safe place to display our artwork too! These easels will be the perfect height for my small sized students to use as they sit at their desk. This will allow them to still be able to paint without straining their necks like they would with traditional easels.
Our classroom is lacking in many resources.
I am new to this building, and all that was in the room when I came were student desks and chairs. I have tried by best to make it a home for many of my students and have been lucky getting the materials through donors choose. Now I need to complete my room with a class set of mini easels that will be used throughout the entire day, everyday.
