it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a Title 1 school. Many of my students have come from different countries with limited English speaking skills, but my 4th and 5th grade students are truly enthusiastic about learning! They come to my classroom each day wondering what they are going to learn. This inspires me to engage them using strategies that will encourage their desire to learn and explore the world around them.
They are diverse learners ranging in abilities and ESOL levels, but this doesn't stop them from wanting to learn.
Their differences make my classroom a place where their creativity shines through! I love seeing the "light bulb" moments as they work together, truly helping each other despite the "learning challenges" some of them face. This makes me want to be a "better" teacher!
My Project
As my students begin the "amazing race" to learning in the classroom, they will be able to use the Kindle Tablets to go on the internet and research their destination places as they go on their "classroom" adventure to learning and seeking answers to questions and clues I will provide on their journey. For example, students will have a history questionnaire and using the Kindle Tablets with their team, research answers to get to the next detour and next clue. The props such as the international flags, will be used to guide them through the different countries and specifically look at geographical information and specific details of those countries. The flashlights, and hula hoops will be strategically aligned to specific activities they will have to complete in order to receive their "next clue" that will help them answer educational questions in Math, Science and Social Studies. For example, they will use the flashlights to learn about creating a "closed circuit" to light a bulb. The hula hoops will be used to teach them "team work" as they maneuver their steps to the next detour. Just like in the "Amazing Race" the yellow envelopes will provide clues to their next destination and learning experience.
Imagine giving my students "the world" through challenges that take them on an "amazing race" just like the television series!
By working together in teams, my students will learn about concepts such as electricity, different countries, measuring distances, geography and much more by solving clues, overcoming "roadblocks" and exploring detours that will empower them to learn, not just in the classroom, but "in other places".
