The school I teach at is located in one of the most diverse school districts in the state. My students come from a broad variety of backgrounds, and each brings very unique and exciting ideas to the table in our lab discussions. They are innovative and continuously amaze me with the projects they create and the problems they seek to solve! These kids crave science knowledge!
Even though we are a STEM school, we are also in a very low socioeconomic district and, therefore, we have very few lab supplies to do any bench work with.
I am here so that I can get supplies to enrich the lesson plans I will give to my students. I am excited to see what these young creative minds are capable of once given the opportunity to explore new things in the sciences.
My Project
We do not have any slides for our cell biology unit. My students are all so excited to use microscopes, and having slide sets would greatly enrich their first encounter with them. The slide sets I am requesting are really cool. Students can totally relate to them because they are seeing what is inside of their own bodies. We are currently in the middle of our human body unit, and my students cannot get enough! I have to ask them many times to leave once class is over because they want to stay and keep working! These slides relate directly to what they are currently learning and will be a valuable asset in transitioning from our human body unit to our cell unit.
The cell model will benefit all my students.
However, this model is essential for my special education students to have in order to learn about the cell.
