This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach Algebra 1 to English as a New Language (ENL) and Special Education students at a Title 1 school, where many of my students are significantly below grade level in math. A surprising aspect of the math curriculum involves reading and writing explanations of their problem-solving processes.

To help support my students learning, we use highlighters, colored markers, and felt-tip pens to identify key components of word problems and important phrases that indicate mathematical operations.

They also highlight what the questions are asking, ensuring they accurately address the prompts in their written responses.
