This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is located in Huntington Park, California. Many of our students are also English language learners and non-verbal.
My classroom supports students with moderate to severe autism, and I currently have nine students.
The individual needs of my students vary greatly, so it is important to have materials and activities that engage all of them. They learn best through the use of pictures, manipulatives, and kinesthetic activities. My students enjoy hands-on materials and are eager to explore new objects.
My Project
I am requesting multicultural dolls, musical instruments from various countries, and a dry erase magnet easel to help support my students to embrace diversity. These materials will help me teach the students about diversity and culture through art, music, and pretend play.
The musical instruments and multicultural dolls I am requesting will help foster awareness of culture and identity in my young students.
These items are particularly helpful for use in a special needs classroom such as mine where the students learn primarily through play, visual stimuli, and music. I am excited to have these materials in our classroom and would greatly appreciate support in funding this project.
