My Students
My students are 9th and 10th graders who have a wide range of reading abilities. Nearly 50% are not reading at grade level. The span of reading levels makes finding "just right" books for students a challenge. This leads to disengaged learners.
My students are starved for fresh reads.
I want the best for my students. I want them to be excited about reading. I want them to pick up books and not be able to put them down. They are amazing people who have the potential to do amazing things.
My Project
To increase student ownership of their reading I am starting a new student book club unit. A book club unit will allow students to select books at their individual reading level. A larger variety of titles will also allow students to find that "just right" book.
I want to give my students books that will create a buzz about reading.
Book clubs will also allow students to discuss and apply what they are reading to their own lives. This will lead students to have engaging discussions about literature. Your donation will allow my students to become engaged readers and learners.
