Texts for Professional Development as a Literacy Specialist

Help me give my students a well read teacher who has the tools/texts to equip them and their parents will learning and strategies that will allow them too develop the most freeing skills: literacy and self awareness.

My Project

The literacy crisis in my community is very concerning and I'm doing something about it. In my teacher education program we talked about culturally responsive teaching, lesson plans, and comprehension. I was not aware of the extensive problem with how literacy is taught inequitably and how many households in my community are not equipped to provide literacy development. Literacy is an important tool for critical thinking and freedom. I completed my masters education to become a literacy specialist however, the learning never stops if I'm going to help transform by taking responsibility and obtaining the information I lack yet need to transform the data of only 10 percent of the students at my school being proficient.
