This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Transitional Kindergarten students simply love listening to a variety of literature. They can barely contain their excitement when I present and read a new book from Mo Willems or when we revisit a well-worn class favorite like The Little Red Hen.

My TK students are sociable and very creative.

They enjoy visiting the library and orally communicating with their peers. My students live and attend school in a high poverty area. They receive free breakfast and lunch. I have seen a lot of improvement in their willingness to share and to take turns. My young learners are also building their confidence as readers, writers, and illustrators.

My Project

My TK students will actively engage in literacy lessons. They will use these books including: Kitten's First Full Moon, A Tree Is a Plant, and The Owl and the Pussycat, to listen to text for simple enjoyment, revisit the text to improve and broaden their vocabulary, ask and answer text dependent questions, and make connections to the world around them.

This collection of text exemplars will provide my young learners with access to rich and varied literature.

Through listening, speaking, reading, and writing my students will be able to demonstrate their understanding of a variety of genres.
