My Students

What if your librarian told you that you could read fun books and come to a fun party, but then the books were always checked out? What if you checked the shelf every day for the "cool books" but they were always gone? Help me buy more Texas Bluebonnet Award nominees for my students!

The Texas Bluebonnet Award is for students 3rd-6th grades.

At my school, we have 3rd-5th. These students hunger for these awesome, fun, intriguing books selected especially for them. The nominees are chosen specifically to encourage these students to read for fun. The students at my school shouldn't have limited literary experiences because of finances! Books are for everyone. Most of my students can't afford to purchase books on their own, and unfortunately, I don't have as many copies as I'd like to circulate among the entire student body. I want to have lots of copies of Bluebonnet nominees for them to check out at the library and share.

My Project

Students read the books and love them. Choosing books from this list helps them expand their reading horizons and maybe go out on a limb with a spooky fiction book or historical fiction. Maybe they'll be inspired to be a paleontologist or a parade designer after reading these titles. The Texas Bluebonnet Award list inspires kids to love reading, and to exercise their powers of discrimination by voting. Every January, my students come to a huge voting party we have in the library. I collect free paperbacks to give each student a memento of their accomplishment, they get their photo taken and aired on the morning announcements, they get to hang out with their friends, and practice their right to vote. Can you help me make it easier for my students to reach their reading goals by providing more copies of these award winning books in my library?

School doesn't get easier as the grades go up.

Unfortunately, reading for pleasure dips as students get older and older. By starting with a solid foundation, we can overcome this and help students realize reading is fun no matter how old you are, and reading takes you places, and gives you opportunities. Please help my students feel this way, without worrying about their financial limitations, and help me stock my Bluebonnet books shelf with lots of copies of these amazing titles.
