My Students

As you know, as the world gets more technologically advanced, the less kids go outside to play. Physical skills are going on a decline with our youth. Simple games, such as tetherball or soccer are not being played, therefore the basic skills are not being developed.

Physical education is an important part of the development of the whole child.

I teach middle school kids in a large suburban community with varied physical skill levels. Our school serves 836 students in grades 6-8 with some being very proficient at playing in physical activities and some not. 54% of our population is classified as economically disadvantaged with our whole student body having a variety of cultures and backgrounds. We need to be able to provide physical activities to kids within a safe environment where they can work on their physical and social skills.

My Project

Usually, recess/lunch is a student's favorite part of the day. The students in my school have an area to play in, however, it is lacking some essential equipment, such as the soccer balls/goals and a tetherball pole. These pieces of equipment will help promote physical activity, social interaction, and a much-needed brain break from class. Physical activity, whether in the classroom or at lunch is an important part of a student's education.

Being able to play with this equipment the kids will be ready to go back inside to learn!
