TESOL 2020 in Denver Colorado for English Language Educators

I need to go to TESOL 2020 International Convention in Denver CO to learn different ways to teach ESL students by exchanging ideas and practices with other professionals teaching students from other cultural backgrounds.

My Students

Our school is in an urban setting attended by over 900 students. About 70% of students receive Title I funding thus, 100% of our students are on free and reduced lunch program.

My ESL students come from different backgrounds, countries, cultures, and experiences.

They all are eager to learn and have the potential to realize their goals with the necessary tools needed to achieve those goals.

This is my 2nd year teaching ESL and 7th year teaching overall. I am wanting to find out opportunities to teach my students based on various cultural perspectives; cultures where they are from and these opportunities can be found during exchange of teaching ideas with other professionals in the field of ESL. I cannot wait to learn from my students and my colleagues this year!

My Project

At the TESOL convention, educators and scholars from more than 100 countries exchange ideas and practices, allowing attendees opportunities to learn different ways to teach based on various cultural perspectives. This exchange of teaching ideas and practices will benefit me as I teach students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

I will also be able to expand my professional networks.

This means these networks can help extend my professional resources both local and international.

I can share about advocacy efforts in my own community in Memphis and learn about others’ as well. In other words, the TESOL Convention is a forum that will provide me with an opportunity to voice my views and also to listen to others’ perspectives or to initiate actions on issues that matter the most to them. I cannot wait for the great opportunity to represent my nonnative-English-speaking community and voice my opinion as a nonnative-English-speaking language teacher.
