My Project
This year, I am truly fortunate to have students who are so eager to learn. At the beginning of the school year, the majority of my students knew many of their letters but didn't know the sounds the letters made. This is a skill that is essential to becoming a reader. Being able to have a strong knowledge of sounds is the foundation of ultimately being able to blend these sounds together to become words and putting words together to read texts. No matter what career they choose in life, or what path their life takes, reading will be necessary.
Please help me to strengthen their knowledge of sounds and their ability to manipulate sounds.
With the sound syllable boards I am requesting, students will be able to break apart and put sounds together. This will also assist in the writing of words. Having these boards allow students to visually see the sounds and take each part piece by piece. Often times students become intimidated when they see longer words. Having this visual allows us to ease into blending smaller words, and ultimately multisyllabic words. In other words, they will start with basic sounds and turn them into words. The words will ultimately become paragraphs. You are helping to lay the foundation and give them a skill that they will need for the rest of their lives.
Research shows that from kindergarten up until third grade is where it is essential for students to grasp phonics, sounds, and the basic components of reading. After that it becomes more difficult to build on the skills they have. This is the perfect time to give them exactly what they need. Please help me lay a strong foundation and give them a chance at a more fulfilling life.
