This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Flat, old tennis balls are a challenge to practice with in tennis. My players need new materials to practice and develop excellence on the tennis court. Practice instills confidence in my student athletes and helps them become the best they can be.

The population of my students that attend our California High School live in an inner city of California, are predominantly Hispanic, and do not speak English as a first language.

Their parents have low levels of education, a median income of approximately $15,000 a year per household, and low rates of home ownership.

My Project

These resources have the potential to increase my players' skills and confidence in tennis. The resources I am requesting will ultimately allow my students more time on the courts to practice and with that time, the ability to practice better. For example, the roller will be used to soak up rain puddles on the courts, and the ball pick-up will be used to more efficiently pick up the balls. With these time savers, my players will be able to utilize practice time better. The teaching aids will be used to help with their footwork. In addition, practicing with balls that actually bounce is crucial to simulating real-life competition scenarios and will allow my players to practice with accuracy and confidence. My players will be inspired and motivated because they will be given the opportunity to play and practice with new supplies. This will help them work harder in practice, which in turn will help them to be more competitive.

The supplies I've requested would provide an opportunity for my players to improve their tennis abilities and benefit from the advantages of being a part of a team.

My players have a passion for tennis. Being on the team requires commitment to a rigorous practice schedule and maintaining high grade point averages in order to participate. Their dedication inspires me. Supplying them with resources needed for everyone to practice and improve is the least I feel I can do as their coach.
