My Students

"When you are very little, tennis should be fun, it should be a GAME." [Guy Forget] Our New York City kids love our Movement/Physical Education class which they attend twice each week. Unfortunately, space and budget limitations have not allowed us to buy equipment for playing RACQUET SPORTS - Tennis and Badminton.

As a successful Early Childhood School, we provide a nurturing, yet rigorous community of learning.

Over 90% of our Grade 3 students performed at Level 3 or above on the New York State English Language Arts and Math Assessments - reflecting continued strong performance even against higher testing standards. We are a Title I, NYC Public School - nearly 60% of students qualify for free/reduced lunch. Our commitment to differentiated instruction supports students of all ability levels in every classroom by integrating: ● English Language Learners (ELL students) ● ● English as a Second Language (ESL students) ● ● Students with Special Needs ● ● General Education students ● Our community is quite international with almost 70% of our students coming from homes where English is spoken as a second language. One-fifth of our students receive extra support for learning English. We also provide communication materials to parents in 4 home languages (English, Chinese, Spanish & Korean).

My Project

Even though our school is just a few miles away from the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center - home of the U.S. Open - most of our Students have never had the opportunity to even pick up a tennis racquet! We will teach our Pre-K to grade 3 students tennis and badminton to improve HAND-EYE COORDINATION, BALANCE, AGILITY and MENTAL FOCUS. This equipment will allow ALL STUDENTS to participate - including students with Special Needs. Goal: ACTIVE, HANDS-ON learning of basic skills. ● (1) Portable, Adjustable QuickStart 18' NET will be used for Tennis, Badminton and Volleyball. ● (30) Jr Tennis & (6) Badminton RACQUETS / Rackets ● (36) Quick Start Tennis BALLS - specifically designed for Beginners. ● BALLOON BADMINTON Set + Extra Balloons - specifically to help Children with Special Needs learn same racquet sport skills. ● 2 Baseball Bases to complete our set. ● (18) REUSABLE, WATER BOTTLES to REFILL and keep Pre-K Students HYDRATED throughout the day to maintain health and focus.

In our 'concrete jungle', there aren't as many opportunities for kids to 'just play' sports.

The costs for organized sports programs can be too much, so we hope our school can provide this education in our Movement/PE gym class. Our Students are dedicated and inspired learners, who deserve the materials to help them succeed in ALL AREAS of their education.
