My Students

Our classroom is unique to our school and 3rd grade this year. We are a combined 3rd grade class and use team teaching to best serve the needs of all of our 44 students.

We value our students as individuals!

They have great strengths and we want them all to shine. Our classroom environment is full of high expectations, yet our students know the value in taking a risk, making a mistake, and learning from that mistake.

Our school is a title one school. Many of our families live in poverty and are broken apart by divorce, incarceration, drugs, and/or alcohol. Our students realize that these factors are NOT excuses. We are problem solvers and we are going to achieve our goals!

My Project

These non fiction texts will entice and educate our students academically and socially. Students benefit the most as readers when they talk about what they have read. By providing students with multiple copies of a text, partnerships have the chance to read the same text, share their new knowledge and ideas. They have opportunities to agree and disagree respectfully.

Knowledge is power!

Exposing students to a wide variety of topics of non fiction grows their understanding in many academic areas; science, social studies and math, to name a few. Through biographies, students are also exposed to the lives of important people who have helped shaped our world. Children need to read about those historical people, past and present, who have had challenges but never gave up on their dreams. They may even see themselves in those biographies and that is a powerful message to give to a child!
